™- , a unique device for making running folds in the web at high speeds, eliminates the need for time-consuming adjustments and required skill levels associated with ordinary plow shoes.This unique assembly has a fixed geometry of fold created by a three element air former assembly positioned between an inlet and an exit roller. The three elements of the half-former assembly are mounted to the carrier bar at precise angles to each other and the inlet/outlet rollers. The web traveling from inlet roller to the exit roller is threaded through he former so that the width of paper lying beyond the nose of the former assembly is folded over the web., The web continues to travel forward in the same direction as the fold progresses. All the elements of former assembly are fixed except the carrier bar which can be moved laterally to vary the width of the fold. Compare this simple procedure of make-ready with plow folding where numerous adjustments of plow shoe, idler rollers. brushes and goosenecks are required to create a fold.
